seven days left of twenty-seven

Hello there!
 October is my favourite month.
My birthday is in seven days.  I will be 28!!
Actually, my birthday is in six days as it is after midnight right now.
But time is all relative...
This weekend is Thanksgiving!
I am thankful for:
Clean tap water
House plants
Salt air
The present moment
the list goes on...
Speaking of lists, here is a random list from 11 years ago when I was obsessed with a certain band...
I like the fact that "film" was still the main choice for cameras.
Funny how things change...
Speaking of change, here are some pretty leaves that have joined autumn:
Below is a beautiful autumn sunset.  Orange and blue compliment each other so well.

This post is all over the place as much as I tried to segue.  Mentioning segueing.. haha... ironic.  Everything is awkward.
Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Autumn

I've been at the beach...

The weather in Van has been so nice lately... so I have been spending it at the beach.  So many nice beaches to choose from here...
Hope your weekend is going well!

Here is some chill, beachy, local music that I like.  Check it out:

Jon and Roy (a band from Victoria, BC)

Drum jam @ Spanish Banks

Something I like to take to the beach.  (From Scoop on West 4th)

Sasquatch '12

Pretend I look happy here, because I was!
Hey everyone!  It's been a while, hasn't it?  I didn't mean to have such a big gap in my blog posts but I'm back now!  School over = more time to blog.

I wanted to post a few pics of the last music festival I went to... Sasquatch.  This festival is held in George, Washington at the Gorge Amphitheatre... an amazingly beautiful place.  This year was my second year of attending the awesomeness.

My super organized friend Steph kept track of all of the bands we saw... so apparently we saw 29 bands during the 4 day fest (even with us missing most of Friday night due to crazy traffic).  I don't have the list with me but here are some of the acts we saw:

  Bon Iver
Jack White
The Shins
Silversun Pickups
Ben Howard
Alabama Shakes
Said the Whale
The Head and the Heart

Here are some pics below!

Kale Chips

Hey everyone!  This is a recipe post but it is super easy.  Making this recipe is easier than making macaroni and cheese, in my opinion (if basing difficulty level on amount of ingredients).  Macaroni and cheese has four ingredients.  You will only need three ingredients to make the chips.  Three!  This was my very first time making these kale chips and it went well.  The only problem is that I want more!!  See below for how I made them...

Kale Chips

1. Preheat oven (I chose 350°)
2. For the rest of the instructions, see the pics below.
You'll need three things: kale, parmesan, olive oil

olive oil

Cut the kale into small pieces, place on pan(s) (I lined the pans with tin foil), cover the kale pieces with olive oil and sprinkle parmesan on them

Bake for about 10 mins & make sure to move them around a bit so they don't burn!

They shrunk a lot!

I guess two pans of kale made one bowl of kale chips!

May or may not be me eating a kale chip.  (I should be smiling.  I like the kale chips.)

Breakfast!  An apple cinnamon crepe from one of the shops on Granville Island.

A "Buddhist Pine" plant!
A little giraffe to watch over my new plant.

Happy Record Store Day!

I eventually made my way over to Neptoon Records after having a tea at Bean Around the World.

My new bracelet made by my friend Anita! (<--Click to check out her blog!)
I picked up this beautiful BFF bracelet at the Make It! craft show today.

Another view of the bracelet.  So cute!

How is your weekend going so far?  Here are some pics from my Saturday.  I hope you like them!  Today was a pretty warm, sunny day... perfect for sitting next to the water at Granville Island.
After exploring the west side of Vancouver, I travelled a bit to the east and checked out the Make It! craft show.  The show (held at the Croatian Cultural Centre) featured so many talented artists and designers and it is still open tomorrow as well!  I love the bracelet I picked up from my talented friend, Anita.
Today was also Record Store Day.  I headed down to Neptoon Records early this evening to check out some of the live music.  Hallow Moon was playing.  I really enjoyed the band's sound although I couldn't really get through the door because the place was full of people, so I just chilled at the front door.  That's okay!  Fresh air and music... sounds good to me!

I'm excited that I bought a plant for my apartment.  I forgot to buy a pot for the poor pine though.  I'm thinking orange... yes, an orange pot.
Anyways, I hope you have a great weekend!

Gotye at Vogue

Hello! How was everyone's weekend?
A couple of nights ago (Sunday), three of my friends and I saw The Belle Game and Gotye at Vogue Theatre in Vancouver. What an amazing concert! I have seen The Belle Game many times and I love them, so I was happy to see that they were opening the show.
This was my first time seeing Gotye live... and wow.. I was very impressed. I felt like there was this chill Australian vibe in the theatre. I have yet to go to Australia but I have the feeling it would be a nice, chill place. haha. During "Eyes Wide Open" (one of my favourite songs), the backdrop screen imagery was so beautiful. Some of the photos looked like the Australian outback. I really loved all of the imagery they used during the concert.
When the band was about to play "Somebody That I Used to Know", Wally (Gotye) announced that Kimbra wasn't there to sing her part of the song. So he asked the audience to sing it! I think the audience sang the entire song though, which is great. Gotye is so interactive.. awesome. His voice is so amazing live.
It's hard for me to put into words how much I loved the Gotye concert...
Can't wait to see them again...
That is my short recap. Haha. Those shots above are some of the photos I took at the concert. Hope you like them!
